The first Mistborn book, “The Final Empire” started slowly, but thankfully I stuck with it and the reward of the story at the end was worth the wait. The writing was clean and pulled me along nicely. I really fell in love with Vin and her becoming the mistborn she was destined to be. IContinue reading “The Final Empire: Review”

The Goblin Emperor: Review
Very rarely an utterly special book comes to my attention. A book one thinks about for days, weeks, after the final page is turned. A delight. To become a part of one’s history when read. This book, “The Goblin Emperor” is such a book. And that’s not to say it’s an easy read, either. ThisContinue reading “The Goblin Emperor: Review”
Red Country, A Review…of Sorts
Here’s one of my reviews that aren’t quite reviews. This is the final in the trilogy that started with “Best Served Cold” then followed with “The Heroes” and now, “Red Country.” Then again, all of these books ‘could’ be read alone, as there isn’t any story arc which binds them, other then them all beingContinue reading “Red Country, A Review…of Sorts”
The Heroes
Here I come to “The Heroes” the second book in the second grimdark trilogy of the “First Law” universe, by the consummate master of the genre, Joe Abercrombie! Gosh, I do love his books. They are dark and bloody and sometimes just what’s needed as they reveal truths about humanity. Truths many other authors mayContinue reading “The Heroes”
Best Served Cold Review
“Mercy is the same as cowardice” And that, as a theme throughout the book, speaks of what to expect in Joe Abercrombie’s first story in the epic fantasy trilogy beginning with “Best Served Cold” where we have a lady lead character, Monza, seeking revenge for the death of her brother, Benna. And no, all isContinue reading “Best Served Cold Review”
King of Thorns
I enjoyed the second book of the Broken Empire trilogy, “King of Thorns” a lot. As far as middle books go, anyway. The final book, “Emperor of Thorns” is next up on my reading list. I’m also really enjoying anti-hero Jorg and his journey as he struggles for power and to reclaim himself, his title,Continue reading “King of Thorns”
Prince of Thorns
To be fair, I know my reviews have been scantly clad as just me wanting to share the books I’ve enjoyed and not really saying anything else. My reviews have lacked a review, as it were. And that’s the way it’s going to stay. I will say that Prince of Thorns was good. Very good.Continue reading “Prince of Thorns”
The Core (Demon Cycle)
I know I’m late to the party when it came to reading these books. The last of the series, book 5 The Core, was released in 2017. But hey. I got there. And I’m glad I did. These books swept me away. I loved them. Sure, there were spots where things slowed and certain plotContinue reading “The Core (Demon Cycle)”
The Skull Throne
I have to say, for me, these books are getting better and better. The depth, detail, and richness of the world is amazing. And of course, this one features my favourite character on the cover! Rojer Halfgrip! The fiddler with the magical muse who kills demons in the naked night. Speaking of covers. The coverContinue reading “The Skull Throne”
The Daylight War
I’m going to start posting my thoughts of books I’ve read. But first, let me be clear. These posts will not be traditional reviews, because the books I talk about will not be rated. I won’t reveal spoilers either: no, “Oh look, Darth Vader is Luke’s dad” here, folks. I’ll also only write my thoughtsContinue reading “The Daylight War”
